Gramma's Surprise

The door swung open, and in the children came.

They had been in town for the Thanksgiving games.

Rach gave the leash a little bit of a tug,

To bring the third in close and very, very snug.

The three of them in line, Ryan, Rach and Fred

The children then looked at Gram-ma and said.

"Gram-ma, oh Gram-ma; we've found a pet!"

"We've picked him out. The best one yet."

"We have a leash and will see to his needs."

"We'll be so good at it, please, Oh Please!"

She looked at their faces so proud they stood.

Asking to keep this bird, a pet, if they could.

She couldn't say no, though gave it a thought

Then said; "Yes, you can give it a shot."

Turning she sighed and shook her head.

I guess this year's feast will be ham instead. -- Aine 2003
